The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is proud to announce the Midwest Cup!
Because of facilities upgrades/replacements/rennovations, we are taking a one-year hiatus from MIDWEST CUP for 2025
The Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational is a full day of spectacular vocals and intense choreography, held in one of the absolute premier, largest, most beautiful, and amazing venues in all of show choir competition anywhere in the country. Students and their friends and family can stay across the street in the beautiful Embassy suites or one of the other fantastic/modern/new downtown hotels, all can figure it to host major B1G TEN events. Approximately 800 student musicians will gather on to perform for 2,300 seats filled with enthusiastic fans, friends, and listeners. The Midwest Cup provides an opportunity for some of the finest show choirs in the region to showcase their performances and compete against one another for the grand championship at the end of the evening. In the final analysis, while only one school will be named Grand Champion, everyone in attendance "wins" by being part of this full day extravaganza created by directors, schools, and students performing at the highest level of this musical art.
NEW THIS YEAR: Our competition is divided into multiple school-sized classes: Open Class/Class AA-A (plus open to anyone — 10-12 enrollment of 301 or more), plus Class B (10–12 enrollment of 151–300), Class C (10–12 enrollment of 75–150), Class D (10-12 enrollment of 0–74), (all based upon Nebraska's NSAA enrollment class sizes) plus Prep, and Single Gender, with trophies for the top half of competitors in all classes. All ensembles can advance to finals. There are also awards for best male and female soloist, best band, best sound (vocals+band), and best visuals (choreography+execution+staging+costumes). In past years, we’ve had schools from as far away as Texas, South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and the Chicago suburbs which makes for a great mix of groups performing during an incredibly rewarding day!
Features: 1) Performance in the magnificent Lied Center—listed as the #6 collegiate performing arts auditorium in the entire United States—one that hosts the likes of the musical Hamilton, 30-day residency of Phantom of the Opera; the finest symphony orchestras in the world, World-renowned Philip Glass celebration, a brand new re-creation of the FIREBIRD featuring the finest dancer in the world, Misty Copeland, and thousands of other internationally acclaimed events ON THAT STAGE; 2) professional in-house sound and lighting; 3) 2300-seat audience; 4) up to 8 (3 wireless) microphones; 5) standard non-movable 4-wide and 4-deep 4'x8' performance platforms; 6) convenient location on the safe University of Nebraska–Lincoln Arts Campus in beautiful and vibrant downtown Lincoln near Lincoln's famous Haymarket District; 7) nothing but the most experienced, impartial, well-known adjudicators, all who have been major architects of influential and successful programs.
