Katie Cooley

Katie Cooley is a double major in horn performance and english. Over the last four years she has had the fortune to work between her two degrees on various projects. In 2015 she collaborated with J. R. Brinkman on a song cycle of her poetry set for soprano and alto voices and piano entitled 13. She also spent the last two years working on a project through UCARE where she explored the tendencies of modernism in music in respect to the literary trends that were happening in the early twentieth century. She has also spent the last two summers working at Young Writers Camp with Stacey Waite where high school students attend various writing workshops and produce an anthology at the end of two weeks. She has a significant amount of chamber music experience, most extensively in a trio for clarinet, horn, and piano where she performed works by both Reinecke and Rochberg.

Katie has had the pleasure of being a part of many premieres of new work from peers and established composers through the UNL Wind Ensemble and various members of the UNL composition studios. She is excited to premiere a new work by Rachel Whelan for horn and piano in Fall of 2016. Katie plans to continue playing in graduate school as well as obtaining a masters degree in Musicology.
