Description: This workshop will explore the instructional design process "Backwards by Design" suggested by Wiggins and McTighe, but connecting educational theory to the music classroom. Throughtout this workshop attendees will benefit from theories and practical experiences in curriculum design and planning for music classes. Assessment of groups, student self- and peer-assessment, implementing National Standards for Music Education, accommodating instruction in creativity, and other related areas will be addressed. The goal of this workshop is to increase the effectiveness of music classrooms using a streamlined and efficient process proven to maximize the potential for student learning.

Description: An introductory course in digital audio production designed to familiarize students with the practices and procedures involved in recording music and live sound reinforcement settings. You will learn the basics of both the hardware and software used for both applications, and learn tricks of the trade to help you get the best results.
*The clinician fee structure for the 2012 Summer Sessions will be a "non-sliding" $75 per workshop (exception: Orff workshops = $450, of which $50 is an advanced deposit due 7/1/12) payable on the first day of the workshop.
**All students who register for college credit are assessed University program Facilities and Technology fees in addition to the tuition and clinician fees.

Description: Orff Schulwerk relies on rhythmic speech, physical movement, and musical play to actively engage students in musical learning. This approach uses poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances-all of which are natural and enjoyable to children-as springboards to educational music experiences. The cultivation of imagination and creativity is an important goal of Orff Schulwerk. Participants in this workshop will gain an understanding of the pedagogical processes of the Orff Schulwerk approach while building a collection of immediately usable classroom materials. Completion of the workshop provides Level I certification under the guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Description: Level II extends the foundation built in Level I with increased attention to how the Orff-Schulwerk approach facilitiates conceptual understanding of music and movement. The roles of rhythmic speech, singing, playing instruments, movement, and improvisiation will be considered in greater depth. Recorder instruction and performance activities will involve the alto recorder, as well as the soprano instrument. Participants also will engage in a broadening range of musical experiences that include more complex compositional elements, including modal melodies, changing meters, and varying accompaniments and textures. Completion of the workshop provides Level II certification under the guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
