Description: An overview of psychological and sociological principles involved
in music learning and performance. Topics include musical aspects
of human development, motivation, expressive performance, creativity,
performance anxiety, emotional response to music listening, and
social uses of music.

Description: This course is designed to study the function
and contribution of music in the education of the handicapped providing
methodology and materials to implement an effective music program.
Detailed study and practicum for the development of musical experiences
for exceptional students of all ages. Focuses on: PL 94-142 and PL 95-561,
music IEP's, assessments, adaptations of curriculum materials, current
methodologies and research.

Description: Historical overview of American music education practices
from the Singing school tradition to today. Overview of major philosophical
influences in American music education, including writings regarding
aesthetic education, equity, ethical practice, meaning, and profundity.
Sources include the writings of Murcell, Dewey, Langer, Reimer,
Elliott, Bowman, and others.

Description: Seminar intended for doctoral-level students who have
completed an initial qualitative research methodology course and
who want to increase their skills in qualitative research. Data
collection and analysis strategies and the application of those
strategies to research problems.

Description: Various correlational-based statistical procedures
presented, including linear and nonlinear regression, multiple
regression, statistical control, analysis of interactions, the
general linear model, factor analysis, and discriminant analysis.

Description: Practical opportunity to learn several statistical
software packages for both mainframe and microcomputers: (a) how
to develop and manage data files, (b) how to transfer data files
between computers, and (c) principles of data transformation and
selection.

Description: Techniques of multivariate analyses, including multivariate
analysis of variance and covariance, multivariate multiple regression,
multigroup discriminant analysis, canonical analysis, repeated
measures (Multivariate model), and time series. Mathematical models
presented and analyzed. Instruction complemented by appropriate
statistical software packages.
